Hands of the Apostles
To say you want to be Jesus’ hands and feet means you want to care for others and do acts of service. You are saying you want to follow Jesus’ example and treat others with love and respect. Generally, the phrase is referring to doing good, but have you ever considered the pain Jesus’ hands and feet endured?
When you think about it, Jesus’ hands had to carry a wooden cross, which probably means they were filled with splinters, and that was before they were pierced with a nail. Then His feet were caked with dirt and possibly swollen and bloody, cut by the rocks along the road, and then if that wasn’t enough, they were nailed to the cross. It is certainly something to contemplate.
To be Jesus’ hands and feet, you must be willing and able to take the good and the bad. Sometimes caring for others or loving someone who hurts you is the hardest thing you will ever have to do. Look at the apostles, those who were closest to Jesus and who went out into the world to spread the teachings of Jesus, they certainly learned to take the good with the bad. Many of them were even killed for being Jesus’ hands and feet.
That is most likely not your fate if you choose to take on the challenge. However, you must know and be prepared to have to deal with some hardships even when you are out doing good things. The world needs more people to accept the challenge of being Jesus’ hands and feet!
