Cast the Net

From shore, Jesus calls out to the disciples who are fishing and tells them to cast their net over the right side of the boat and they will find something (John 21:6).

In the image, the fishermen are casting the net on the left side. I chose it to show the example that even though the disciples did what Jesus asked, they won’t get the desired outcome because they didn’t really follow Jesus’ instructions. This is a frustration for me because there are times when I think I’m doing what Jesus has asked me to do, but then after more reflection, I realize I didn’t listen to all of the instructions or follow them precisely.

Some of the obstacles that keep me from hearing Jesus and following His instructions include,

1) not listening and thinking I know what Jesus is going to say,

2) thinking I can do it on my own and believing my way is better,

3) listening to others instead of following Jesus.

In the scripture, Jesus’ instructions to the disciples are specific, and His instructions for me and you are specific too. Just a little reminder to clear out all the clutter that is blocking the line of communication with Jesus so you will be able to hear His instructions and follow them perfectly!
