Let Your Hearts Be

Let Your Hearts Be

This past week, my only cousin on my dad’s side came to visit. We are 10 years apart in age, we have always lived in separate states, and the rare family visits were condensed to a few hours at a time leaving little time to form a strong personal bond. The only thing connecting us is the fact that our dad’s share parents.

However, those parents, our grandparents were extremely important to both of us. We lost our grandpa back in 2015 and since then she and her parents were the heavy hitters in the care for my grandma, who passed away one year ago, May 12th.

Though the visit was in no way related to the anniversary, we couldn’t help but talk about our grandparents and the things we love and miss about them. Over the five days my cousin and her husband were visiting, an observer would never be able to guess that we’d not been close all of our lives. We laughed and talked for hours, even shedding some tears as we reminisced about our grandparents.

Although we all (our spouses included) are super sad to not have our grandparents here, we can find comfort in the fact that we have each other and together we can keep the memories alive. Just as Jesus said as He left the disciples, He told them to not be troubled or afraid because He will no longer be there, rather to rejoice because He will be with His Father in heaven. These words of scripture come at just the right time for me to feel at peace and to know my grandparents are in a better place too, but they have left me with my cousin and visa versa to share all of the fun times we had with them and to make some new memories in the future!
