One Righteous Act

It’s hard to wrap my mind around when I know how many times I’ve sinned in my life but Jesus’ decision to be crucified takes away all of those sin AND all of the ones I haven’t even committed yet. WHOA!!!

Knowing this makes me cringe to think that my actions caused pain and suffering to another, especially to Jesus, but this one of the cornerstones of my faith. The big picture is that Jesus’ decision affects me and my life AND in turn, my decisions affect Jesus. It doesn’t make any difference that we lived on earth at different times and that we’ve never actually met face to face, the decisions we make have an impact on others.

Are you familiar with the butterfly effect? It is the belief that a butterfly can flap it’s wings and set molecules of air into motion, which would move other molecules of air, in turn moving more molecules of air; eventually capable of starting a hurricane on the other side of the planet. This idea was proposed by Edward Lorenz in 1963. When he shared the idea, people laughed but it was later proven by physics professors an actual “law” of scientific discovery.

This initiates the truth that when Jesus died on the cross, he did so for your sake and now everything you do matters. Also, in the words of author, Andy Andrews in the book, “The Butterfly Effect”,

There are generations yet unborn whose very lives will be shifted and shaped by the moves you make and the actions you take today. And tomorrow. And the next day. And the next.

You have been created in order that you might make a difference. You have within you the power to change the world.

When I live my life knowing Jesus’s one righteous act, acquitted me from my sins, even the ones I haven’t committed yet, I can live my life free from the chains of my wrong doings. I also want to do my best to NOT sin as to cause harm to someone I love. Knowing I am released from my sinful behavior doesn’t make me want to sin more and more, instead it makes me want to sin less and less.

I want the life Jesus came to give me, life to the full!
