Unless I See

In a world where people lie, cheat and embellish things, I sometimes feel like I have to see it to believe it.

In the past, I’ve been kind of hard on Thomas, thinking he was wrong for not believing his friends that they’d seen Jesus. Today, when I think about it, I would probably be skeptical too. It is only because I believe nothing is impossible for God and of course I know the scripture stories about Jesus’ resurrection and then ascension that I think it shouldn’t have surprised anyone that Jesus appeared to them.

But if I was in that situation and didn’t know the rest of the story?

I would definitely be like Thomas, saying, nah, that doesn’t sound right. I used to say I don’t have to see to believe, thinking I didn’t need to see Jesus’ wounds, but in reality, I have seen them because I know the scripture.

I think I owe Thomas an apology for doubting him and his faith.
