Compete Well
I love how St Paul mentors young Timothy by using language fitting for a teenager. He says, fight the good fight, or run the good race, or compete well. I’ll bet if Timothy was alive today, he’d be a big fan of ESPN!
Paul’s message is to say, YES there will be hard times and pain you will endure but never give up! A life lived with Christ is worth the struggle. It’s like he’s telling Timothy that if he practices righteousness, devotion, faith, love, patience, and gentleness, he will be a CHAMPION!
These words are just as true for each of us today! These qualities, when lived out, help us to overcome the pain and hurt we encounter along our path. Plus when we meet others who work hard to keep these values in the forefront of all they do, we have more prayer warriors fighting the good fight, on our team!
