Life is a journey…

Welcome!

I wear my faith on my sleeve and I strive to live a life of integrity and intention. I am a joy-seeker, an off-road enthusiast and scripture lover.

Shine Before Others

Shine Before Others

This scripture always makes me sing “This Little Light of Mine” in the back of my head. You??? If not, you will now :-)

Jesus so clearly says, we are salt and light. So what exactly does that mean? At a retreat we broke down this scripture a little to learn more about what Jesus is saying to us. When you consider the uses of salt, especially at the time Jesus walked on the earth, it was a seasoning, yes, but it also preserved food. When Jesus says that we are light, I think of all sorts of lights! A candle of course but also a flashlight or Christmas lights, flashing and colorful. The lights of a car that you can see coming or going, street lights and traffic lights which all help guide us as we travel from destination to destination.

So what do Jesus’ words in this scripture say to me? I believe Jesus is asking me to preserve the faith, cherish the flavor of life and be an example to others. He is asking me to let my light shine so bright so that even when covered up, you can still see Jesus illuminate within me! I’m to let my light share stories, give warmth and provide safety.

I do love this image of the hand holding the lantern outside the bushes as though they are trying to hide the light somehow. I also see it as someone who is following the light right through the hedge, which reminds me that sometimes we have to go through some really rough stuff before we are can see the light again. No matter how you see the image or what words stand out to you in the scripture, the main point is that Jesus has called us to be something great! Go and let your light shine!!!
