The One
You know the parable Jesus shared, “unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground…
If you don’t know it, look it up in the Gospel of John, chapter 12, verse 24.
Jesus isn’t talking about wheat, he is referring to you and me.
During this season of Lent, the challenge of the Lenten disciplines can be, well, a challenge.
As a creature of habit, it can be hard to start a new habit.
However, if you were raised in the church, then there are probably habits you already have when it comes to how you show respect and reverence to God.
For example, in the Catholic Church, as you enter into the Worship Space, there are Holy Water Fonts there for the faithful to dip their finger in and give themselves a sign of the cross.
This is one way you ‘fall to the ground’ because you are acknowledging the Holy Trinity as you come into their presence.
Another practice is to genuflect before entering into the pew, and another is to kneel to pray.
Though you are not literally falling to the ground, you are, through your body language lowering yourself in the presence of God.
This understanding that God is God and you are not, is shown through actions.
When you walk the walk, it is much easier to talk the talk.
So as you move through your day, consider how you are falling to the ground today.
Are you putting others first, especially God?
Are you caring for others, without judgment or expectation of a reward?
Let your words and actions today, be your prayer, almsgiving and fast to live out the scripture.
When you do these things, good will multiply.
Your example plants seeds you may NEVER see.
